RICHARDS BAY
INTRODUCTION
What
began as a small harbour during the Anglo Boer War in 1879, is now a fast growing
town, a very important one as it is now the largest harbour in South
Africa. It was set up by the Commodore of the Cape - Sir Frederick
Richards, and named after him too. Surrounded by sugar-cane, wetlands
and beaches, it has everything to offer in close proximity. And various
annual and seasonal events, as well as many sporting activities are sure
to keep you entertained.

PARKS Natal has an abundance of Game Parks, many of them dedicated
to a specific cause, and Richards Bay is with driving distance of some
of the major parks, such as the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park.

SANCTUARIES There many bird sanctuaries within and around Richards
Bay which are dedicated to preserving the areas beautiful bird-life.

sure to visit them.

A wide range of watersports is available in and around Richards
Bay, including scuba diving, snorkeling, water-skiing, wind surfing,
fishing and surfing. Its beautiful beaches make it the ideal spot for
watersport enthusiasts.

such as: horse riding, hiking and simply relaxing on the beaches,
which is a sport of its own.
