Introduction

It's Only Natural in Cooloola, so if you're looking for peaceful, relaxed holidays in the arms of nature then this is the area for you. The Cooloola Region, famous for its multi-coloured sands, runs north from Noosa to Rainbow Beach, from the towering pine trees of the picturesque mountain ranges, to the fascinating historical city of Gympie down to the Cooloola National Park.
If it's highrise and action you want Cooloola is not the place for you. Instead the region offers pristine National Parks, unspoilt creeks and lakes, the awe inspiring coloured Sands and some very interesting history and culture.

Attractions

  • Great Sandy National Park

  • The Cooloola National Park extends from Lake Cootharba, not far from Noosa, to Rainbow Beach. With Fraser Island it forms the Great Sandy Region which is the biggest single sand mass in the world.

  • visit the wreck of the Cherry Venture, a small coastal steamer flung ashore in a storm in 1973

  • walk up to the lighthouse at Double Island Point

  • Fraser Island is the biggest sand island and a World Heritage site.

  • Mary Valley Heritage Railway
  • Gold Mining Museum
  • Prophet Gold Mine / Night Gold Pour 
  • Woodworks Museum
  • Glass House Mountains: Lush forests with wierd rocky pillars protruding up which are popular for hiking to the top. Each is about 4 to 6 hours to the summit and down. Scenic drives with spectacular views are in the area, especially from higher in the mountains.

Activities

  • For something a little different enjoy a motoring trip through the fertile Mary Valley which takes you through the beautiful rural countryside that follows the meandering Mary River.

  • There are plenty of fishing and boating adventures to fill your days

  • Take a trip up to Tin Can Bay where you may even meet a dolphin or two.

  • Take a slow and enjoyable trip on a house boat up the beautiful river systems.

  • If you are an experienced 4WD enthusiast, this is the area for you

  • Lake Cootharba is a very popular boating area and a major sailing venue.

  • The Cooloola Wilderness Trail, maintained by the National Parks authority, stretches 46 kilometres. It is divided into major sections generally less than 10 kilometres.   • Whales watching between June and September.
