LAKES ENTRANCE

Introduction
As its name
implies, Lakes Entrance is the gateway to the extensive salt water lakes
system of eastern Victoria. At the eastern end of the Ninety Mile Beach,
overlooking Bass Strait, Lakes Entrance boasts Australia's busiest fishing
port and entrance to it's largest inland lake system. it is also a popular
aquatic centre.
The lakes at Lakes Entrance are Lake Wellington, Lake Reeve, Lake Victoria
and Lake King. There are several islands in the waters, the largest being
Raymond Island.
Protected by the Strzelecki Ranges to the south west and the Great
Dividing Range to the north, and tempered by sea breezes from Bass Strait,
the fishing village of Lakes Entrance experiences a temperate,
Mediterranean type climate with mild winters and temperate summers. A
climate that has led to the area being referred to as 'the Riviera'.
However the Rivieras of Europe cannot compete with the natural beauty of
this wonderful region
